Removing the CMOS battery - Dell T5820

Remove the CMOS battery from the host computer.

Procedure

  1. If installed, disconnect the optional UPS.
  2. For added protection, disconnect the twist-n-lock main power cable from the rear of the console.
  3. Remove the two screws that secure the left side panel of the GOC.

    Note: The side panel has a short ground lead connecting it to the main chassis. When removing the side panel, do not strain this ground lead.
  4. Disconnect the short ground lead that connects the side panel to the GOC main chassis at the center of the lead.

  5. Remove the left side panel and put it in a safe place.
  6. Remove the side cover.
    1. Press the latch.

    2. Pull the latch upward and rotate it to release the cover.

  7. Move the latch away from the battery to remove the battery from the socket.
    If necessary, you can use a small screwdriver to remove the battery.

  8. Lift the coin-cell battery out of the system board.
  9. Let the computer sit for a minimum of 3 minutes to let the CMOS memory clear.
