Discovery and Optima Front Status Indicators

Overview

This document describes the state of external status indicators, such as LEDs or lamps, visible from exterior or front of a component while system is in idle or standby state. With exception of LPCA, this document does not describe indicators inside component case or indicators on component circuit board. Indicators listed are those visible without need to withdraw component from chassis or to remove component covers (except for LPCA).

The document is divided into sections by cabinet or high-level component. Each section contains a table that explains the status indicators on each component. The tables are divided into 3 columns.

  • The first column on left is labeled “Front Status Indicators” and lists the printed name on the front panel for the indicator, if available, or identifies it by description if it is unlabeled.

  • The second column in middle is labeled “Status” and describes the indicator status when the system is idle or in standby condition. Indicators that can display multiple normal states may have one color or another listed in this column.

  • The third column on right is labeled “Indicator Description”. This column describes the indicator states and condition indicated by each as well as location detail and other helpful information.

note:

Be cautious of dim LEDs. Light from nearby lit, active LEDs often “bleeds” into inactive, dark LEDs making inactive LEDs appear active.

CLK Green

Indicates the status of the ICE reference clock signal at J28.

  • Green: Internal clock PLLs are locked to the external system reference clock. This is the normal system state. This LED will also turn on when ICE is in reset.

  • Blinking: Internal clock PLLs are locked to a local reference clock within ICE. This could indicate a problem with system clock input to ICE. DVMRLINK errors are expected in this state as ICE is not synchronized to the system reference clock.

  • Dark: Internal clock PLLs are not locked. This state could indicate a problem with ICE.

HB Green

Indicates heartbeat from ASP (AGP SCP Processor) on ICE.

  • Green: Processor is in reset or ICE software has crashed

  • Blinking

    • Fast Blink (~2 blinks per second, 50% duty cycle): ICE software is running in boot code. During boot up, ICE first boots from internal flash memory, performs a Power-On Self Test (POST), then downloads application code from the host over Ethernet. The fast blink mode is expected for a short time during TPS reset while ICE performs these boot-up tasks, then it should switch to a “low blink” mode. If the fast blink mode persists - it could indicate a problem with ICE booting or downloading application code from the host.

    • Slow Blink (1 blink every 2 seconds): ICE software is running in application mode. This is the expected state during normal operation after TPS Reset.

  • Dark: could indicate the ICE software has crashed.
