Cradle Assembly removal and replacement

This procedure describes how to remove the cradle from the patient table and how to replace the cradle. The procedure also describes how to remove various subcomponents located in the cradle and how to replace them.

Removing Cradle from Curved Non-Electrical Patient Table

About this task

This procedure describes how to release and remove the cradle from the patient table and how to replace it. Whether you choose to remove the table from the magnet room depends entirely on your service needs.

Procedure

  1. Undock the patient table.
  2. At the same time, press the cradle latch block and push in the cradle release button at the front of the cradle.

  3. While holding down the latch block and pressing the cradle release button, slide the cradle forward enough so that the cradle covers the top area of the cradle latch block. Release the latch block and cradle release button.
  4. Push in the right actuator on the table front base.

  5. Note: Pressing the actuator button engages the secondary cradle latch cable and causes the pin stop to move down flush with the table top surface, allowing the cradle to slide forward.
    Prop up the cradle or remove the cradle from the patient table to do desired maintenance.

Removing Cradle from Flat Table

About this task

This procedure describes how to remove the cradle from the patient table and how to replace various subcomponents located in the cradle. Whether you choose to remove the table from the magnet room depends entirely on your service needs.

Procedure

  1. Undock the patient table.
  2. At the same time, press the cradle latch block and push in the cradle release button at the front of the cradle.

  3. While holding down the latch block and pressing the cradle release button, slide the cradle forward enough so that the cradle covers the top area of the cradle latch block. Release the latch block and cradle release button.
  4. Push in the right actuator on the table front base.

    Note: Pressing the actuator button engages the secondary cradle latch cable and causes the pin stop to move down flush with the table top surface, allowing the cradle to slide forward.
  5. Remove the cradle in part or in full, as needed:
    1. If you do not need to fully remove the cradle, follow these steps.
      1. Slide the cradle forward far enough to clear the cradle guide rail latches at the rear of the table.
      2. Use wood blocks (or similar) to prop up the front of the cradle.

    2. If you need to fully remove the cradle, follow these steps.

      1. Remove the cradle cover and then the PA coil or PA filler. See GEM Replacements and follow the steps for PA coil removal.

        Note: Do not follow instructions for reinstalling a PA coil or PA filler at this time.

      2. Remove the mid ribs over the P2 cable.

      3. Disconnect the cotton rod attachment.

      4. Release the cradle.

      5. Move the cradle out from the table far enough to expose the bottom cover (front cable shield) beneath the P2 connector.

      6. Detach the P-port base before disconnecting the P connector. Make note of how the P-port base is oriented.

      7. Remove the front cable shield.

      8. Disconnect the two P-port connectors from the cradle and remove all cable clamps.

      9. Use wood blocks (or similar) to prop up the rear end of the cradle.

      10. Disconnect the two cable tracks from the bottom of the cradle.

      11. Carefully feed the cables and connectors through the holes located at the rear of the cradle and remove the cradle from the table.

    3. To replace the cradle, do these steps:

      1. Position the cradle on the table and carefully feed the cables and connectors through the holes located at the rear of the cradle.

      2. Reinstall the cable tracks at the bottom of the cradle.

      3. Route the cabling as shown below.

      4. Replace all cable clamps and reconnect the two P-port connectors on the cradle.

      5. Replace the front cable shield.

      6. Replace the mid ribs over the P2 cable.

      7. Reinstall the PA coil or PA filler. See GEM Replacements and follow the steps for PA coil installation.

      8. Replace the cradle cover.

Replacing Rear Cradle Components

Procedure

  1. Remove the cradle release cover.

  2. Release the cradle and lift the rear section cover of the cradle. See Step 5.a.
  3. Remove the screws on the side of the rear section and lower the cradle back onto the table.

  4. Remove the three screws holding the rear section cover to the cradle.

  5. Remove the upper screw for each cover mounting block and rotate out of the way.

  6. Refer to the cradle assembly drawing mark numbers to replace any of the rear subcomponents in the Replacement Parts list.
    Note: Apply Loctite 242 to threads on the hexagon socket head shoulder screw before re-inserting.

Replacing Front Cradle Components

Procedure

  1. Release the cradle and slide the cradle off the table approximately 6 inches (100 mm) to expose the cradle front.
  2. Refer to the cradle assembly drawing to replace any of the front subcomponents in the Replacement Parts list.

Replacing Center Cradle Components

Procedure

  1. Release the cradle and remove the cradle cover by referring to GEM Replacements and following the steps for PA coil removal until the cradle cover is removed.

    If needed for the part you are replacing, continue with removal of the PA coil or PA filler. Otherwise, do not remove the PA coil or PA filler.

  2. Refer to the cradle assembly drawing to replace any of the center subcomponents in the Replacement Parts list.
  3. When replacing the cotton rod (mark number 22 or 23) or rod cap (13), make sure the correct adjustments are made.
    1. Note:

      When installing cotton rods, make sure the jam nuts on the cotton rods are tightened.

      Be careful not to break the 2 pins at the end of the cotton rod or lose any of the 4 compression springs. For more information about safe handling of the cotton rod, see Cotton Rod Replacement.

      For the left cotton rod (mark number 22), thread into adjustment block (9) until the latch (27) is flush with the side wall when the rod cap (13) is pressed flush with the front face of the front section (3). This step is easier to do if the cradle is elevated in the rear so you can see the side of the cradle (use a non-ferrous material such as a pad or wood).
    2. For the right cotton rod (mark number 23), the release bar (24) should be flush against the front section (3) when the handle bar (30) is in the normal (starting) position. Make sure that there is no slack in the cotton rod.
  4. If the PA coil was removed, replace the PA coil following the applicable reinstallation instructions in GEM Replacements.

Replacing P-Port Covers

Procedure

  1. Each P-port cover (front and rear) is attached by a rubber tether. Remove the P-port cover by gently tugging its tether to pull it out.
  2. Replace with a new P-port cover, gently pushing its rubber tether into place.

Finalization

Procedure

  1. Dock the table.
  2. Confirm that the cradle release functions properly.
  3. Confirm that the LPCA connects to the cradle and that the cradle can move into the bore.
