Installing updates from Remote Software Download (RSD)

RSD is an installer application that helps to install new updates from Service Packs whenever they are released and pushed from the GE back office.

This procedure covers the following aspects of RSD:

Setting up RSD to receive software updates.
Configuring user access for RSD.
Installing software updates using root login.
Installing software updates from SIGNA applications.
System tray status icons.
Manually checking for download availability.

RSD uses EA3 authentication to authorize personnel performing software updates. Multiple users and their access rights can be set using the User Administration tool, which can be accessed from the Service Desktop by clicking User Admin. Authorized users can install, decline, or skip the updates. A root user can set who will have access to install updates. By default, only root users and EA3 authorized users can install software updates.
