About this task

This procedure describes the replacement of the gradient and RF body coil air flow sensor.

Procedure

  1. Perform LOTO on the RF amplifier and PEN cabinet. See the MR Service Safety Manual, PN 5452735.
  2. Remove the left side cover to access the SRI. See Side and Top Cover Removal and Installation.
  3. There are two methods to access the RF body coil air flow sensor:
    1. Front cover removal (recommended):
      1. Remove the right side middle and front covers. See Side Cover Removal and Installation.

      2. Remove the right front cover. See Front Cover Removal and Installation.

    2. Front end bell removal:
      1. Remove the split bridge. See Bridge and Longitudinal Drive Belt Replacement.

      2. Remove the front end bell. See Front End Bell Removal and Installation.

  4. Disconnect the RF body coil air flow sensor housing from the scan room interface (SRI).

Figure 2. Air Flow Sensor Assembly Drawing
  5. Locate the RF coil air flow sensor head bracket at approximately the 1 o'clock position on the magnet enclosure.
Figure 3. RF Coil Air Flow Sensor Head Bracket (Front End Bell Removed)
  6. Loosen the two screws securing the sensor head bracket to the display plate.
Figure 4. Screws Securing Bracket to Display Plate
  7. Carefully disassemble the sensors from the plastic blocks, discard the failed sensor assembly, and reassemble the new sensors into the plastic blocks. The old plastic blocks must be reused, because the sensor FRU does not contain plastic blocks.
Note: Be careful not to touch the exposed sensor elements.
  8. Reconnect the RF body coil air flow sensor housing to the SRI.
  9. Replace the covers or end bell in reverse order.
  10. Remove LOTO. See the MR Service Safety Manual, PN 5452735.

Finalization

  1. Ensure that sensors are operating correctly. See Body Air Flow Functional Check.
