Safety

Before working in any GE Healthcare MR suite or performing any GE Healthcare service procedure, you must:

  • Have read and understood all hazard conditions and safety requirements in the latest revision of the GE Healthcare MR Service Safety Manual (5452735).
  • Have successfully completed all relevant GE Healthcare Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) courses (or for non-GE employees, equivalent workplace training courses).
  • Comply with all site-specific training and workplace safety requirements.

If you have any safety concerns at any time, do not begin work or immediately stop work and move to a safe location. Immediately contact your supervisor or site safety officer for instructions on how to proceed.

important: GE Field Engineers cannot install, service, or repair the MDP. Only a licensed electrician is qualified to complete those tasks. Refer to the MR Service Safety Manual (5452735) for further safety information.

Overview

MDP power and ground connections must be tight to avoid system failures.

The customer is responsible for completing the MDP PM.

The GE Field Engineer (FE) verifies that the customer completed the MDP PM.

Procedure

  1. note:

To service the MDP, the customer must provide a qualified electrician or other appropriate facility personnel who meets the electrical safety codes for their area.

The site’s qualified electrician must tighten all incoming and outgoing connections and lugs inside the MDP as per the MDP manual.

On every PM visit, the FE must check to make sure the MDP is serviced annually. A maintenance label or log on the MDP indicates when the MDP was last serviced.

Look for the label on the MDP.
  2. Check the label, and refer to the table below.
    Table 1 Check the label
    If the label indicates Action
The MDP PM is completed, and will not be due on or before the next scheduled PM. Mark this item on the PM schedule as Pass.
The MDP PM will be due on or before the next scheduled PM. Inform the customer that the MDP PM is coming due.
The MDP PM was not completed after the first notification to the customer. Inform the customer that the MDP PM is now overdue.
MDP PM is still not completed after the third notification to the customer. Inform the customer that the MDP PM is overdue, and contact your manager.
  3. If there is no label or log on the MDP, do the following:
    1. If you know the approximate date of service, put a label on the MDP as shown. The customer can also create a site log to track this and other PM schedules.
The MDP service date should be included on the component line as shown:

Figure 1. GE equipment maintenance sticker (5661793)

      Figure 2. MDP label location

    2. If the date is unknown or inaccurate, treat this as an overdue PM. Explain to the customer the importance of this PM to system performance, and that local/federal ordinances prevent GE FEs from servicing the MDP.
  4. If the site’s electrician wants to service the MDP, the FE can assist in safely bringing down the system in preparation for the procedure. The qualified site electrician must perform the MDP service and should reference the vendor manual for the related procedure.
