About this task

The Dell T5820 has two SSDs, and they have the same installation procedure.

Procedure

  1. Insert the HDD into the 3.5 inch bracket with the connector end of the hard drive towards the back of the HDD bracket.
  2. Slide the HDD bracket back into the hard drive bay.
  3. Install the HDD bracket.
    1. Slide the bracket into the drive bay until it clicks into place.
CAUTION: Make sure the latch is open before installing the bracket.
    2. Lock the latch.
  4. Install the HDD bezel.
    1. Hold the bezel and make sure the hooks on the bezel snap into the notches on the system.
    2. Press the blue lock button on the left edge of the ODD bay to secure the bezel to the system.
  5. Install the side cover.
    1. Hold and align the bottom of the side cover to the chassis.
    2. Make sure the hook on the bottom of the side cover snaps into the notch on the system.
    3. Press the system cover until it clicks into place.
CAUTION: The system will not power on without the side cover. Also, the system will shut down if the side cover is removed while the system is on.
  6. Connect the short ground lead that connects the left side panel to the GOC main chassis at the center of the lead.
  7. Secure the left side panel to the GOC.
  8. Get a GE equipment maintenance sticker, and write today's date on the sticker. Put the sticker on the GOC where it is easily visible.
Note: When replacing the hard drive or DVD drive, a maintenance sticker is not required.
