Setting up software tool to calibrate UPM - MNS forward power

Sets up software for calibrating Universal Power Monitor (UPM) and Multi-Nuclear Spectroscopy (MNS) forward power.

About this task

This procedure applies to both the AMT and CPC amplifiers.

Procedure

  1. Attach the MNS 31P TR switch cabling to the LPCA A connector.
Figure 1. MNS 31P TR switch connection to LPCA (MR750 system shown)
  2. Move the cradle to the Home position and then drive it into the bore.
  3. Press Landmark when the alignment light is approximately where the center of the head coil would be.
  4. Start the UPM tool:
    1. (For non-proprietary Service Tools) From the Common Service Desktop, select Calibration > UPM Tool > Click here to start this tool.
    The UPM tool window appears.

  5. Make the following selections for the settings:

  6. Select Start, make sure that the hardware setup is correct, and select Yes.
After approximately 1 minute, you are asked to confirm the peak power value output from the amplifier. The peak power should be within the limits specified in 8 kW 3.0T MNS Amplifier Calibration. If the power read from the power meter is within these limits, click Yes. Otherwise, click No and recheck calibration of the RF amplifier.
  7. The window shows the current step in progress, and indicates Pass/Fail when complete.
    1. If a failure occurs, see Troubleshooting UPM failure.
    2. If no power is output from the MNS amplifier during UPM forward power calibration:
      1. Close the UPM tool and start a new exam in geservice mode with a patient weight of 50 kg.
      2. Create a landmark with the 31P TR switch.
      3. Select Service > MNS Setup, and then prescribe the 31P Func Check series.
      4. Save and download the sequence with any acceptable scan parameters.
      5. Open Spectro Prescan, click Start, and let the sequence run for about 10 seconds.
      6. Stop the sequence, end the exam, and continue with the UPM calibration.
  8. Proceed to Calibrating MNS reflected power and UPM - MNS functional check.
