Enroll an imaging device in IPM

Learn how to enroll imaging devices in IPM.

About this task

You will work in tandem with the , who will complete the necessary steps in the application while you perform corresponding steps in the imaging device. For details, see topic Add imaging device and generate an enrollment code (IPM Device Registration User).

After that user provides you with the enrollment code generated in , you complete the registration process on the imaging device. You will use the information gathered in topics Identify devices and Prepare to connect devices to IPM to complete this procedure.

Important: If this is your first time connecting to an imaging device, we strongly recommend you work with an experienced Remote Technical Engineer or Support engineer. Confer with the to determine the best support strategy for performing this procedure, including guidance on a collaboration tool to use such as Microsoft Teams meetings or remote engineering sessions.
The steps you take depend on the imaging device you are connecting to :

To enroll an imaging device in IPM:

Procedure

  1. Determine the number of protocols on the imaging device.
  2. Confirm the specifications for this device previously provided by the or .
    • Model name
    • Software version
    • System ID
  3. Configure network parameters for the appropriate server:
    • NTP server
      • Enable Network Time Protocol: Select this check box.
      • NTP server IP address: Enter the IP address of the customer's Network Time Protocol server.
    • DNS server
      • Use DNS: Select this check box.
      • Primary DNS: Enter the IP address for the customer's first DNS server.
      • Secondary DNS: Enter the IP address for the customer's second DNS server.
      • Tertiary DNS: Leave this field blank.
      • Domain Search Name: Enter the domain search names for the customer's DNS servers.
    • Proxy server
      In all cases:
      • Enable proxy server: Select this check box.
      • IP address: Enter the IP address for the customer's proxy server.
      • Port: Enter the port number for the customer's proxy server.
      If username/password authentication is required, also enter:
      • Proxy username: Enter the user name for the customer's proxy server.
      • Proxy password: Enter the password for the customer's proxy server.
      If certificate-based authentication is required, also install any SSL certificates on the imaging device:

  4. Provide IPM connection details:
    • IPM configuration URL: Enter the URL for IPM device configuration on the Edison Cloud commercial environment (for example, CHINA).
    • Enrollment code: Enter the device enrollment code supplied by the .
  5. Reboot the imaging device.
  6. Provide the or with the following details:
    • Whether the imaging device has been successfully connected to IPM.
    • The number of protocols on this device, which will be needed later to check against the number of protocols imported from this device to IPM.
