Changing the Operating System password

Use these steps to change your operating system password.

About this task

Note: If your system is under a GE service contract, you must share the updated password credentials with the GE Online Center to retain GE remote monitoring and service. Failure to do so prevents GE from remotely accessing the system, which will significantly degrade the speed and quality of the service delivery.

Procedure

  1. From the header area of the screen, click the Tools icon.
  2. From the System Management work area, click the Service Desktop Manager tab.
  3. On the Service Desktop Manager, click Service Browser.
  4. From the MR Service Desktop screen, click the Utilities tab.

  5. From the Security Tools folder, click OS Passwords.

  6. From the Service Desktop screen area, click Click here to go to the link.
  7. From the OS Password screen, complete these steps.

    1. From the Username menu, select root.
    2. In the Old Password text field, enter your old password.
    3. In the New Password text field, enter a new password.
    4. In the Retype Password, retype your password.
    5. Click Change Password.
  8. Click the X in the upper right corner to close the Service Browser.
