Head Coil Troubleshooting Tips

Overview

The following tips can be used to troubleshoot common problems with the 1.5T HDe GE Head Coil. 5145658(1.5T HDe)

Coil fault Troubleshooting

The system reports a coil fault during prescan or does not recognize the coil connection to the system when selected in the software.

Probable Cause Suggested Actions Resolution
The coil connector has become disconnected from the system interface.Check to make sure the coil connector is fully engaged.Engage connector and try the scan again.
There is a problem with the DC bias from the system interfaceCheck to ensure the correct DC bias is being provided to the coil during transmit and receive.Correct MRI system problem.
Coil ID issues. From CSD, select Diagnostics, Manual Tests, SRI Functional Checks, and run the SRI Coil ID test. Compare the coil ID value found to that listed in the coil configuration. If the value does not match, or no coil ID is found, perform Cable Replacement.

External Cable Check

Before removing the cable assembly from the coil, visually inspect all coaxial connectors and pins on the coil connector. Figure 1 shows the Qhtr used for 1.5T HDe Head coil. Figure 2 shows the QD box used for 1.5T Head coil. If there are any broken, deformed or recessed pins or coaxial connectors, replace the cable assembly.

Check whether the BNC cable with blue strip is connected to BNC connector with blue label on the coil.

Mechanical Hardware Check

Check the BNC cables for mechanical damage and shorted center pins.

Inspect the Bendix/Hypertronics connector for damage from improper insertion. Banana plug on the 1.5T/1.0T Bendix Quick Disconnect plug will damage pins if the operator attempts to insert the connector upside down. At this time also inspect the Bendix/Hypertronics connector for foreign material and remove as appropriate.Make sure cradle latches and top latches are operating and still have adequate range of motion.
