GEM coils introduction

This document describes the 3.0T GEM (Geometry Embracing Method) high-density coils made by General Electric Healthcare, which are receive-only coils. The 3.0T GEM catalog number is M7000AM. The coils included for this catalog number are:

  • 3.0T GEM Head Neck Unit (HNU)

  • 3.0T GEM Anterior Array (AA)

  • 3.0T GEM Posterior Array (PA)

The Peripheral Vascular (PV) coil is optional for the GEM system, and the catalog number is M7000AL.

Systems with DV24 software can receive the M7000GH 3.0T GEM Head Neck Unit (HNU). This MCAT will not function on DV23.1 or earlier.

The performance of any modifications and/or repairs that have not been evaluated and approved by GEHC Coils Engineering may cause the device to be adulterated within the meaning of section 501(h) of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, 21 U.S.C. § 351(h) and is strictly prohibited.

GEM HNU Coil

The GEM HNU coil consists of four parts: Anterior (Face Bill), Posterior, Adaptor Block and Adaptor Block (AB) Bridge. To identify the HNU coil parts, see the illustrations below.

Two versions of this coil are available.

  • M7000AM—3.0T GEM Head Neck Unit (HNU)

  • M7000GH—3.0T GEM Head Neck Unit (HNU) – Used on systems with Silenz and QuietMR. (This MCAT does not function on systems with DV23.1 or earlier.)

GEM AA Coil

To identify the GEM AA coil, see the illustrations below. The AA coil should be stored on top of the coil positioner to maintain the curved shape of the AA coil.
