HP Z400 SCSI Controller Card Replacement

Prerequisites

System board or component damage could result.
The cooling fan is off only when the workstation is turned off or the power cable has been disconnected. The cooling fan is always on when the workstation is in “On” or “Standby” mode.
You must disconnect the power cord from the power source before opening the workstation.

SCSI Card damage could result during removal or installation.
If you do not unplug the power cord while installing SCSI cards, your SCSI card might be damaged and the system will not recognize the change.
Power off and unplug the power cord from the Host Computer. Press and hold the Host Computer Power Switch for several seconds to bleed off any stored power in the Host PSU before removing or installing SCSI card.

Turn off the Host Computer before disconnecting any cables.

TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO COMPONENTS WITHIN THE HOST COMPUTER, OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING ESD PRECAUTIONS:
WORK ON A STATIC-FREE MAT.
WEAR A STATIC STRAP TO ENSURE THAT ANY ACCUMULATED ELECTROSTATIC CHARGE IS DISCHARGED FROM YOUR BODY TO GROUND.
CREATE A COMMON GROUND FOR THE EQUIPMENT YOU ARE WORKING ON BY CONNECTING THE STATIC-FREE MAT, STATIC STRAP AND PERIPHERAL UNITS TO THAT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT.

Overview

This procedure describes the steps necessary to perform HP Z400 (Optional) SCSI Card replacement. For preliminary requirements and finalization steps see HP Z400 Lower level FRU Replacement.

1 SCSI Controller Card Removal

Procedure

Lay the Host Computer on its side with the system board facing up.
Unlatch the Retention Clamp that holds the Expansion Cards in place.

Remove the SCSI Controller Card from Slot 1, set aside.

2 SCSI Controller Card Installation

Procedure

Insert replacement SCSI Controller Card in Slot 1 of the Host Computer. Make certain the SCSI Card is fully seated in the motherboard.
Latch the Retention Clamp that holds the Expansion Cards in place.
Return to the HP Z400 Lower Level FRU Replacement procedure.
