CTPM-1306 (Clean Slip Ring Tracks)
Prerequisites
Overview
Procedure Effectivity:
1 Usage Information
Procedure
- General PM on the slip ring should ONLY include vacuuming the dust that may be left on the ring from the brush tips. There should be no need to clean further, as long as there is no build up, deposits, or burn marks on the slip ring. If these problem are seen when inspecting the ring, refer to this cleaning/repairing section for recommended actions.
- Follow the instructions given below:
Use the following procedure ONLY when a slip ring track becomes contaminated with ANY foreign material, such as, oil, fingerprints, or dust or when you discover pitted areas or areas with deposits.
A general ”haze” MAY BE present over the slip ring. This is due to an interaction of the silver with the atmosphere. This ”haze” could range in color from brown to orange to purple depending on the environmental conditions. The color will be more prevalent on the edges of the ring, outside of the wear track. This ”haze” is normal and, should NOT be cleaned off the slip ring.
Frequent cleaning of the slip ring shortens brush tip life.
2 Repairing the slip ring track
Procedure
danger- Turn OFF all the power at the PDU.
- notice
- Remove the Gantry side covers.
- Raise the top cover and pull back the rear cover.
- Remove the slip ring covers by removing the four bolts for each cover.

- Using Cratex fine abrasive stick (46-297961P2) attempt to smooth out the pitted area or areas with deposits on the slip ring. ONLY use Cratex on the ring that is in need of repair. If the area(s) are still not smooth, use Cratex medium abrasive stick (46-297961P1). After using the medium stick, repeat the procedure with the fine stick.
- Wipe repaired area with a lint-free cloth wetted with minimum 90% PURE alcohol, and follow with a DRY lint-free cloth. DO NOT use the alcohol prep pads found in hospitals.
- Re-install the system covers and test. Perform 100 slices of system functional test.

The soft brush attachment that comes with the HEPA vacuum cleaner should NOT be used for anything other than slip ring brush debris cleaning. The brush must be kept clean to avoid contamination of the slip ring and brush tips. It is recommended to store the brush in a separate closed bag (e.g. Zip-lock bag).
The purpose of the alcohol is to clean the Cratex off the ring. It will note break down the Cratex, but will only allow for a means of removing the pieces left on the tracks. If Cratex residue or other foreign material is left on the slip ring, it could begin to cause arching or communication problems.
