Open Console (Z840) Memory Replacement

Prerequisites

Overview

This procedure shall be followed when replacing the Memory DIMM Modules in the host computer (Z840).

1 Preparation

Procedure

  1. Shutdown system. Select one of the following methods to Power OFF the Console:
    • If Applications are up, click on the [Shut Down] button on desktop display and select Shutdown.

    • If Applications are down, open a Terminal Window. Type: halt, then press ENTER.

    • When halt command has finished, power Off the console at the front panel switch.

  2. Apply LOTO. See Equipment Service - Lockout-Tagout-PPE procedure.

2 Memory Module Replacement

Procedure

  1. Remove the side access panel by loosen three screws and pull out the latch to release the computer left side cover.

  2. Remove the ① Expansion Card Support and the ② Airflow Guide.

  3. Release two clamps both side of memory, and carefully pull the memory out of the slot.

  4. Install the new Z840 memory, Align the memory keyway with the slot key, and firmly seat the memory in the slot.
  5. Reinstall all removed components, and reconnect any cables that have been disconnected.
  6. Remove LOTO from console.

3 Finalization

Procedure

  1. Reinstall the host computer side cover.
  2. Power ON the console and confirm the host computer does not display POST (Power On Self Test) errors.
  3. Perform the Functional Checks → System Scanning Test instructions from the procedure list.
