TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO COMPONENTS WITHIN THE Z820, OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING ESD PRECAUTIONS:
- WORK ON A STATIC-FREE MAT.
- WEAR A STATIC STRAP TO ENSURE THAT ANY ACCUMULATED ELECTROSTATIC CHARGE IS DISCHARGED FROM YOUR BODY TO GROUND.
- CREATE A COMMON GROUND FOR THE EQUIPMENT YOU ARE WORKING ON BY CONNECTING THE STATIC-FREE MAT, STATIC STRAP AND PERIPHERAL UNITS TO THAT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT.
FOR FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING ESD PROTECTION, REFER TO THE SAFETY CHAPTER IN THIS PUBLICATION.

IN ORDER TO MEET EMC REQUIREMENTS, THE CHASSIS MODULES MUST BE PROPERLY INSTALLED AFTER SERVICING. CHECK THAT THE MODULES ARE MOUNTED FIRMLY IN PLACE AND LOCKED DOWN WHERE APPLICABLE.

FOLLOW ALL REQUIRED SAFETY AND PPE PROCEDURES CUSTOMARY FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION WHEN WORKING ON THIS PRODUCT.

Overview

This procedure shall be followed when replacing the DVD Drive in the Z820 computer on a NIO16 Console.

Select one of the following methods to Power OFF the Operator Console:
1. If Applications are up, click on the Shut Down button and select Shutdown.
  
  The Operator Console monitor will display a 'Power Down' message when it is acceptable to power OFF the Operator Console.
2. If Applications are down, open a Unix Shell. Type: halt.
Power OFF the console at the front panel switch.
Remove the front and left side cover from the console.

Refer to Replacement > Console > (Console Cover Removal and Installation Procedure).
Remove the following components from the host computer (Z820):
- Side Access Panel
- Airflow Guide
- Expansion Card Support

Disconnect the cables for DVD drive.
Pull the drive release latch, and pull out DVD drive.

Replace the existing DVD drive with new one.
Reinstall all removed components, and reconnect any cables that have been disconnected.

Install console covers.
