THE HOST COMPUTER CAN WEIGH IN EXCESS OF 55 POUNDS.
DEPENDING ON YOUR HEIGHT AND ACCESS TO EQUIPMENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION, LIFTING ASSISTANCE MAY BE REQUIRED. USE YOUR JUDGMENT TO DETERMINE IF LIFT ASSIST OR A SECOND PERSON MAY BE REQUIRED TO ASSIST IN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION.

TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO COMPONENTS WITHIN THE Z840, OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING ESD PRECAUTIONS:
- WORK ON A STATIC-FREE MAT.
- WEAR A STATIC STRAP TO ENSURE THAT ANY ACCUMULATED ELECTROSTATIC CHARGE IS DISCHARGED FROM YOUR BODY TO GROUND.
- CREATE A COMMON GROUND FOR THE EQUIPMENT YOU ARE WORKING ON BY CONNECTING THE STATIC-FREE MAT, STATIC STRAP AND PERIPHERAL UNITS TO THAT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT.
FOR FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING ESD PROTECTION, REFER TO THE SAFETY CHAPTER IN THIS PUBLICATION.

IN ORDER TO MEET EMC REQUIREMENTS, THE CHASSIS MODULES MUST BE PROPERLY INSTALLED AFTER SERVICING. CHECK THAT THE MODULES ARE MOUNTED FIRMLY IN PLACE AND LOCKED DOWN WHERE APPLICABLE.

FOLLOW ALL REQUIRED SAFETY AND PPE PROCEDURES CUSTOMARY FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION WHEN WORKING ON THIS PRODUCT.

Save customer Images / RawData / Protocols and System State before replace any Hard Drive Disk.

Overview

This procedure shall be followed when replacing the System/Image/Scanfile hard drive in the NIO16 Host Computer (Z840).

There are two manufactures for Hard Drive Disk, Seagate and Hitachi. If need replace Seagate HDD with Hitachi HDD, MUST replace four HDDs together.

Refer to HDD Physical Location Checking to confirm the damaged disk location.
Shutdown system. Select one of the following methods to Power OFF the Console:
- If Applications are up, click on the [Shut Down] button on desktop display and select [Shutdown].
- If Applications are down, open a Terminal Window. Type: halt , then press ENTER.
- When halt command has finished, power Off the console at the front panel switch.
Apply LOTO. See Equipment Service - Lockout-Tagout-PPE procedure.
Remove the console covers. Refer to Replacement → Console → Console Cover Removal and Installation procedure.

Remove the side access panel and pull out the latch to release the computer left side cover.

Remove the following components from the host computer (Z840):
- Expansion Card Support
- Airflow Guide

Locate HDD FRU by referencing the Illustration below.

Refer to disk location confirmed in Step 1 to remove the damaged disk from the computer’s drive bay.

Remove the 2.5 to 3.5 inch Form Factor Adapter Bracket with Hard Drive from the Hard Drive carrier rails. See Figure 4.
Remove the 2.5 to 3.5 inch Form Factor Adapter Bracket from Hard Drive and set Hard Drive aside. See Figure 4.
Install replacement Hard Drive into the original 2.5 to 3.5 inch Form Factor Adapter Bracket removed from original Hard Drive.
Install replacement Hard Drive with Form Factor Adapter Bracket into original Hard Drive carrier rails.

Install the replacement Hard Drive assembly into the computer drive bay.
Reinstall all removed components, and reconnect any cables that have been disconnected.

Perform the correct steps.
1. For System / Image HDD replacement, perform a Load From Cold (LFC).
  
  Refer to appropriate LFC procedure in Service Methods.
2. For Scanfile HDD replacement.
  1. Power ON the operator console, perform [Shift + F8] command and press [Enter] key to skip can disk array.
  2. Run “Reconfig”, select “System”, select “Yes” under the “Regenerate Scan Database” and press “Accept”.
  3. Reboot system and type st to start up application.
  4. Open a shell window and type gre-raid -q command by root account, make sure RAID setup successfully.
Perform the Functional Checks → System Scanning Test instructions from the procedure list.
Reinstall console covers.
