NIO16 Host Computer (Z840) Memory Replacement

Prerequisites

Overview

This procedure shall be followed when replacing the Memory DIMM Modules in the Z840 computer.

Procedure

  1. Select one of the following methods to Power OFF the Operator Console:
    1. If Applications are up, click on the Shut Down button and select Shutdown.

      The Operator Console monitor will display a 'Power Down' message when it is acceptable to power OFF the Operator Console.

    2. If Applications are down, open a Unix Shell. Type: halt.
  2. Power OFF the console at the front panel switch, and apply LOTO.
  3. Remove the left side cover of console.

    Refer to Replacement > Console > Console Cover Removal and Installation Procedure.

  4. Remove the side access panel and pull out the latch to release the computer left side cover.

  5. Remove the following components from the host computer (Z840):
    • Expansion Card Support

    • Airflow Guide

  6. Release two clamps both side of memory, and carefully pull the memory out of the slot.

  7. Install the new Z840 memory, align the memory keyway with the slot key, and firmly seat the memory in the slot.
  8. Reinstall all removed components, and reconnect any cables that have been disconnected.
  9. Remove LOTO from console.

Finalization

  1. Reinstall the console covers.
  2. Power ON the console and confirm the host computer does not display POST (Power On Self Test) errors.
  3. Refer to System Scanning Test to confirm proper operation.
