Heat Soak and Season

Prerequisites

Overview

Heat Soak and Season is designed to improve the high voltage stability of an X-ray tube and should be run if a tube becomes excessively “spitty” (in particular if you are experiencing Spit Max or Spit Ratio errors). In summary:

  • Check HV Candlestick and receptacle for damage

  • Launch Heat Soak and Season scanning tool

Procedure

    • Electrocution hazard
    • High Voltages present.
    • Use proper lockout/tagout procedures before Servicing gantry. See safety menu of Service Document gui for appropriate procedures.
  1. Using proper lockout / tagout and gantry cover removal procedures, access the high voltage candlestick and high voltage tank receptacle using the spanner wrench.

    Inspect the receptacle and candlestick for any signs electrical damage or arcing (cracks, burns, etc).

  2. If there is damage, equipment replacement is necessary. (Tube, tank, or both.)
  3. If damage is not found, secure the HV candlestick according to the instructions in Securing HV Cable found in this manual under Replacement.
  4. Launch the HEAT SOAK AND SEASON tool from the UTILITIES tab of the Common Service Desktop.
  5. Click the SCAN button to Execute heat soak and season scans, then press the START SCAN button on the SCIM when it begins flashing.
