Gantry Rotation Safety Check

Prerequisites

Overview

Use DDC to Rotate the Gantry for 10 minutes, at the fastest allowed gantry speed.

Procedure

  1. Stop the rotor of X-ray tube in case of Liquid Bearing Tube before HVDC off. Refer to Liquid Bearing Tube Rotor stop procedure for details.
  2. Make sure the Axial Drive Enable switch (S2) and HVDC swich (S3) on the service switch panel are off.
  3. Manually rotate the gantry through a full rotation listening for an contact between stationary and rotating parts
    • Listen for an contact between stationary and rotating parts. Correct any issues found before continuing.

    • Watch and listen for any loose parts/cables and tighten them before continuing.

  4. Turn on the HVDC and Axial Drive service switches.
  5. Notice Image
    • notice
    • (For For Liquid Bearing Tube ONLY) Open command window and execute “rotor_ctrl –start” command before the procedure execution. Refer to Rotor Control Tool for LB Tube (VCT) manual for details.
  6. Start the Axial Functional diagnostic.
    1. Open the Common Service Desktop
    2. Select the Diagnostics Tab
    3. Select the Diagnostic Data Collection menu item to start the diagnostic.
  7. Notice Image
    • notice
    • Do NOT be present in the scan room while the gantry is rotating. Listen from the scan room door.
  8. Select a rotation speed of 2 seconds and run the test. This step should be run for a minimum of 30 seconds.

If using DDC/ Rotating X-Ray off, make sure Rotor Overrides is on (or else it will brake a LB rotor)

Listen for an contact between stationary and rotating parts. Correct any issues found before continuing.

    note:

Be ready to click on the Stop button on the menu immediately if you hear any problems. (This stops the gantry faster than the red emergency stop (e-stop) button)

  9. Repeat Step 6 for rotation speeds of 1.0 and 0.5 seconds.
  10. Wait 3 minutes after the gantry stops rotating before continuing to allow for axial drive cooling.
  11. Rotate the gantry at 0.35 seconds/revolution for 60 seconds (to give the gantry time to get up to speed).

Listen for an contact between stationary and rotating parts. Correct any issues found before continuing.

    note:

Be ready to click on the Stop button on the menu immediately if you hear any problems. (This stops the gantry faster than the e-off button)

  12. If no issues arise, gantry rotation capability is safe for use.

Finalization

No finalization steps.
