Hydraulic Tilt Motor Fluid Check and Fill Procedure

Prerequisites

Overview

This procedure defines the steps necessary to check and fill the hydraulic tilt tank.

Procedure

  1. Remove the gantry rear base covers.
  2. Tilt the gantry forward and backward the full range of motion several times. It is important that the pump be warm to the touch.
  3. Notice Image
    • notice
    • Always check and fill the hydraulic tilt assembly with the gantry tilted full backwards. Failure to do this will result in hydraulic fluid spills via the overflow tube when the system is pressurized.
  4. When the pump is warm to the touch, tilt the gantry back 30 degrees.
  5. Remove the forward 6 mm cap screw (without the vent tubing).
  6. Use the 5 mm hex key as a dip stick.

Clean the hex key with alcohol to remove any grease or other contaminants.

  7. The fluid level should be just below the fill port (about 15 mm on your dip stick). Reference Figure 1.

  8. To fill the unit a flexible hose on suitable squeeze bottle is recommended.
  9. Use paper towels to catch any overflow.
  10. Clean the threads of the cap and wrap 2 full turns with new teflon tape.
  11. Reassemble gantry base covers.
    note:

This Hydraulic system is not permanently sealed. It is normal to see a coloring (from oil) around the teflon tape of the threaded joints. The difference between a “seep” and a “leak” is a puddle.

Finalization

  1. Verify full range of tilt operation.
