Gas Spring Replacement

Procedure

  1. Raise the table to maximum height.
  2. Remove right Gantry Side Cover.
    • warning
    • POTENTIAL FOR SHOCK.
    • VOLTAGE MAY BE PRESENT.
    • USE PROPER LOCKOUT/TAGOUT PROCEDURES BEFORE REPLACING COMPONENTS.

    • Always turn OFF the HVDC before the 120 VAC. Turning OFF 120 VAC power before HVDC power can result in equipment damage.
  3. Remove power from table by turning off 120VAC, Axial Drive and HVDC switches on Service Switch Panel.
    note:

    Remember to remove all objects from the cradle.

  4. Remove the Base Covers, the right Side Panels, and the upper side rail covers.
  5. The gas springs keep the Actuator under tension, even when you raise the table to maximum height. To remove the tension from the actuator:
    1. Raise the table past its upper height limit by manually turning the hex screw on the motor.
    2. Raise the table to fully extend the gas springs, so that they wiggle back and forth.
  6. Remove the E-rings from the top and bottom Gas Spring mounting pins.
  7. Remove the pins from their mounting blocks.
  8. Remove both Gas Springs.

    • EXPLOSIVE HAZARD.
    • COMPACTING A PRESSURIZED GAS SPRING MAY CAUSE IT TO EXPLODE.
    • DISPOSE OF GAS SPRINGS PROPERLY. DO NOT THROW DEFECTIVE GAS SPRINGS IN THE TRASH. RETURN BOTH GAS SPRINGS TO: GEMS RECYCLING CENTER, ACE WAREHOUSE 220 E. COLLEGE AVE. BLDG. 11 CUDAHY, WI 53110
  9. When you install the replacement Gas Springs:
    1. Position the Gas Spring pressure chambers UP, or closest to the front table leg.
    2. Take care to install the E-ring correctly.
    3. You may need to adjust the height of the table to match the length of the new gas springs.
  10. Return power back to the table and replace table and gantry covers.

Finalization

  2. Power up the Table from the Service Switch Panel.
  3. Using the service switches on the MTCB, move the Table up and down, and the Cradle in and out.
  4. Use the gantry control keys to move the Table up and down, and the Cradle in and out.
  5. When the Table functions properly, reinstall the Table Base Covers, the Side Panels and the Gantry Side Cover.
