Axial Encoder Assembly Replacement

Prerequisites

Overview

This replacement procedure defines the replacement process for the axial encoder assembly.

Procedure

  1. Remove gantry covers as required.

Refer to Parts Replacement > Gantry > Enclosure > (Cover Removal Procedure).

  2. Tilt gantry back to 30 degrees.
  3. Notice Image
    • notice
    • Always turn OFF the HVDC before the 120 VAC. Turning OFF 120 VAC power before HVDC power can result in equipment damage.
  4. Turn OFF all 3 gantry service switches (Axial Drive, HVDC, 120VAC).
  5. Disconnect the Encoder DB 9 pin connect from the gantry harness.
  6. Carefully cut tie-wraps as necessary.
  7. Using an 8 mm hex key, remove the shoulder screw on which the encoder assembly pivots.
    note:

Do not remove grease from the screw shoulder. Some grease is necessary for free movement of the assembly. If necessary wipe some grease from the inside of the old assembly and re-apply to the shoulder bolt prior to installing the new assembly.

  8. Install in reverse order.
    note:

Make sure the shoulder bolt has some grease on the shoulder of the bolt as noted in the prior step.

    note:

Apply a minimal amount of Loctite 242 to the tip of the shoulder bolt threads. This is to insure that the Loctite does NOT wick out onto the shoulder of the bolt and mix with the grease.

  9. Perform “Resetting the C-Pulse” (located in Align, Setup, Cals > Gantry folder).

Finalization

  1. Perform Axial Encoder Check, located in Axial Motion Checks.
  2. Perform Axial Control Functional, located in Axial Motion Checks.
  3. Perform System Scanning Test (located in Functional Checks > System folder).
